Intro to Djing with B. WEST

Course Description

In this 4 session series, students will learn the fundamentals of DJing using CDJs. We’ll explore essential skills such as music organization, Rekordbox, CDJ setup, and mixing techniques, as well as offer hands-on time to practice and build confidence behind the decks. There will also be an opportunity to showcase learning by performing a short set at the end of the course (optional).

Requirements

You will need a laptop, a pair of headphones, a USB stick, 5 or more songs and Rekordbox. This course is for FLINTA* with little to no DJ experience.

If we are able to offer you a spot, we will be asking for a 20 euro registration fee to offset some of the costs. The rest of the workshop fees will be covered by funds raised from the Polyphase raffle.  If you have trouble covering the registration fee, please reach out. No one turned away for lack of funds.

WHAT WE ARE DOING AND WHY

Polyphase provides feminist learning spaces in areas where creativity and tech intersect. The objective is to facilitate experimentation and achieve greater gender equity and parity in the music industry and tech sector, where women and gender expansive people are still greatly underrepresented.

In July 2023, Polyphase hosted its first DJ workshop, featuring Venetta as our expert instructor. Participants had the opportunity to delve into the fundamentals of DJing, practice beatmatching, explore various effects, and test out their performance skills. Since then we have expanded our repertoire of workshops to music production, sound design, hardware integration and live performance.
